As with everything we do, we make our hearing aid recommendations based on your individual needs. That's why we take our time getting to know you personally and ask about your hearing situation in detail. We keep you involved at every step, educating you on your hearing loss, so you can comfortably make a decision about how to move forward.
We consider a few different things before we can make our suggestion. Since we carry a very wide range of hearing aids, we have many different solutions to choose from! The advantage of our decades of experience is that we're very familiar with the hearing aids we stock, allowing us to know which devices would help your individual needs. We consider:
We don't want anyone to miss out on hearing better because they can't afford it. We'll work with you to find a solution for your hearing loss no matter what your budget is. Talk to us about financing or budget-friendly options.
Hearing aids come in different shapes and sizes, including invisible-in-canal (IIC), completely-in-canal (CIC), in-the-canal (ITC), in-the-ear (ITE), behind-the-ear (BTE), and receiver-in-canal (RIC).
Since the cost of a hearing aid depends on the technology inside of it instead of the size you choose, picking a hearing aid style is a matter of personal preference. You may have an idea of what you want, but that can change once you've seen and experienced hearing aids for yourself.
We carry behind-the-ear (BTE) and receiver-in-canal (RIC) devices as demo units, so you can try these out and may even be able to purchase devices that day if you choose. Most people ultimately decide to go with a RIC hearing aid because they're comfortable, they sound relatively natural, and they can offer additional options like Bluetooth connectivity and rechargeability. Custom-fit devices that go inside your ear may be a cosmetic preference, but people are often surprised by how hard-to-see even the RIC hearing aids are.
At Ledbetter Audiology, we are an independent practice. No brand owns us, and we are able to offer hearing aids based on what we feel is best from a wide range of devices. Every hearing aid brand we carry is known for reliability, high-quality products, and wonderful customer service. The brands we fit most patients with are Oticon, Signia, Starkey, Phonak, and Unitron.
Each manufacturer has its own distinctive sound and unique fit. The right hearing aid for you will depend on your personal preferences. We like to let our patients try different hearing aids from different manufacturers to find the one they like best before they put any money toward a purchase. Once you find a pair of hearing aids you're comfortable with, we may let you borrow them for a trial period to see how they work for you in your everyday life. Even if these aren't the right hearing aids for you — such as if they're behind-the-ear and you would rather have custom-fit devices inside your ears — you'll still have a more realistic expectation of what's available and what you like. We let your opinions, preferences, and choices guide the hearing aid selection process.
